Camp Tamarind is forty acres near Sakleshpur where children climb, swim, cook on fire, build things badly and then rebuild them properly. There is no wifi, one landline, and a nurse on site every hour of every day.

Cooler mornings, the river is high. Best session for first-timers and the eight-year-olds.

First rains. Everything is green, everything is wet, the frogs are extraordinary.

A Tuesday, roughly

06:30 — Up, and a walk to the ridge if you feel like it
08:00 — Breakfast, cooked by two of the cabins on rotation
09:30 — Skills block: climbing, kayaking, carpentry or pottery
13:00 — Lunch, then two hours of nothing at all. Deliberately
16:00 — Second block, usually wet
19:30 — Dinner around the fire, then songs, then lights out at 21:30

The two blank hours after lunch are the part parents question and campers remember. Being bored outdoors is a skill and it takes about four days to relearn.

What does it cost?+

₹42,000 for the fortnight, all-inclusive from the Bengaluru pickup point. We hold six bursary places each session at ₹8,000; applying for one has no effect on whether your child gets in.

Can my child call home?+

Once, on day seven, from the landline. It sounds severe and it is the single biggest predictor of a good second week — the children who call daily do not settle.

What about medical emergencies?+

A nurse lives on site, and the district hospital in Sakleshpur is 22 minutes away. We have made that drive four times in nine years: two fractures, one appendix, one asthma attack. All four parents were called before we left the gate.

My child has never been away before.+

About a third of every session is a first-timer. Homesickness peaks on nights two and three and almost always passes; we call you if it does not, and we have sent three children home early in nine years.

Food?+

All vegetarian, cooked on site, with the campers doing a share of it. We handle nut, dairy and gluten allergies routinely — tell us at booking, not at drop-off.
