Customise a template with the editor

Once you’ve picked a template — sample, existing, or blank canvas — you customise it in the visual editor. Drag blocks from the Components panel onto the canvas, click any block to edit its content and styling on the right, preview at three device sizes, click Save Changes. No code.

Open the editor

Three ways in:

  1. From a sample you just picked — in the campaign wizard step 2 after applying a sample, click Edit.
  2. From a campaign in progress — in the campaign detail page, the Content tab shows the current template; click Edit.
  3. From scratch — in the template hub (wizard step 2 OR Spark → Templates → New), click Start from ScratchBlank Canvas. The editor opens on an empty canvas with a Container already in place.

The editor layout

When the editor opens you see five regions:

  • Top bar — Brixus logo + Editor label, Template Name and Email Subject fields, then Variables, Save Changes, Preview, Exit buttons on the right.
  • Components panel (left) — drag blocks from here onto the canvas. Two tabs: Components (the 12 individual blocks) and Sections (pre-built block groupings).
  • Canvas (centre) — the email itself, with a viewport-switcher toolbar above (Mobile / Tablet / Desktop, plus zoom and undo/redo controls).
  • Page panel (right) — when no block is selected, shows page-level properties like the email title. When you click a block in the canvas, this panel switches to that block’s content and styling options.
  • Outline panel (bottom-left) — a tree view of the layers you’ve added, useful for navigating nested layouts.

A Sent with Brixus365 branding footer is auto-added to every email and shows as locked (Protected — cannot be edited or removed) in the outline. The branding is removable on paid plans.

New Email Template

The first time you open a blank canvas, the editor reminds you: add a Container or Section first to organise the layout. Containers cap the email at a sensible width (around 600 pixels — the email-client industry standard) so it looks consistent across Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.

The 12 building blocks

The Components panel groups all 12 blocks under BASIC.

BlockUse it for
HeadingTitle or section heading
Text BlockBody copy
ImageHero image or inline graphic
ButtonCall-to-action with a link
HeroPre-styled hero pattern (image + heading + button combined)
ContainerWraps everything; sets the 600 px max width
SectionA row inside the container — header, hero, body, footer
ColumnsMulti-column layout inside a section
SpacerVertical gap between blocks
DividerHorizontal rule
Raw HTMLDrop in custom HTML for advanced layouts
Social BlockSocial-media link icons

The Sections tab next to Components offers pre-built groupings (header + nav, hero + CTA, footer + social) you can drop in as one piece.

Drag and drop

To add a block: drag from the Components panel onto the canvas. To reorder: drag the block’s grab handle. To nest: drop a block inside a Container or Section. To delete: click the block, then the trash icon in its toolbar.

Standard layout pattern most users follow:

  1. Container wraps everything.
  2. Inside the container, drop Section blocks for each row (header, hero, body, footer).
  3. Inside each section, drop content blocks: Heading, Text Block, Button, Image, etc.

Edit content and styling

Click any block to select it. The right panel switches from page properties to the selected block’s properties, with two areas:

  • Content — the words, the link target, the image URL.
  • Styling — colours, padding, alignment, font weight.

Changes preview in real time on the canvas. Nothing’s saved until you click Save Changes.

Add variables

Some content should change per recipient — name, email, unsubscribe link. Click the Variables button (top-right of the editor, with a small sparkle icon) to open the menu:

Available Variables

Click to copy to clipboard

{{name}}

Recipient name

{{email}}

Recipient email

{{unsubscribe_url}}

Link to unsubscribe

Click any variable to copy it to your clipboard; paste into a Heading or Text Block. The literal {{ name }} shows in the editor; the recipient sees their actual name.

Preview at different sizes

The viewport switcher above the canvas toggles Mobile (360 px), Tablet (768 px), Desktop (1280 px). Most opens happen on mobile — check that view first.

The Preview button (top-right) opens a fuller preview with sample-data substitutions for variables.

Save

Click Save Changes when you’re done.

Where the saved template lives depends on where you opened the editor from:

  • From a sample / campaign — the saved template stays attached to the campaign you’re editing. To re-use it on another campaign, see Manage your templates for how Existing Templates work.
  • From the standalone editor (Spark → Templates → New) — the saved template appears in your Existing Templates, available to pick on future campaigns directly.
